Republican Small Businessman and Farmer Chris Hurt Announces His Candidacy for 82nd District State Representative
HALLS – Conservative Republican Chris Hurt today announced his candidacy for the 82nd District seat in the state House of Representatives. The 82nd District includes Lauderdale, Crockett and Haywood counties. Hurt is seeking the Republican nomination for the 82nd District.
"I am running because it's time for our district to have a conservative voice in Nashville. Republicans control the state house by a huge majority, and we need a Republican to take our voice to Nashville and get things done for the people of our district", said Hurt.
Hurt is a conservative small businessman who is heavily involved in agriculture. He is a former teacher and head football coach at Halls High School from 2000 to 2014.
"We need less government, lower taxes and policies that grow our rural economy and create jobs here, where they're most needed. I will never, ever vote for a tax increase," Hurt said.
Our farmers are overburdened with regulations and are being crushed by bureaucrats in Washington. Small businesses suffer the same fate from Washington. We must fight back against Washington and their policies that hurt our farmers and small businesses.
I will stand up for our small town values. I am 100% pro-life. I oppose taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood. And I support traditional marriage. I will fight to defend the Second Amendment and for our right to keep and bear arms, to hunt, to fish, and if need be, defend our homes and property.
I oppose illegal immigration and sanctuary cities.
I will support our schools and fight for our fair share of education dollars, but I believe that our schools are best managed here at home, by parents, teachers and communities."
Hurt is married to Dawn Hurt and the Hurts have 5 children. They attend First Baptist Church in Halls.
The Republican Primary is August 2nd.
